Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I have been getting frequent BSODs for a while now. I have updated all drivers and even changed the RAM and HDD of the notebook. The only thing I have not checked out is the BIOS. Is there a later version of the BIOS compatible with my notebook and how do I install it?

Insyde F.18 BIOS update

‎10-05-201712:44 AM

Hello @timmortality

How are you doing ? Thank you for posting in the official HP Support forum.

Your problem known as Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is kind of Windows self-protection feature. If you received a blue screen error, or stop code, the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from data loss.

A hardware device, its driver, or related software might have caused this error. What you describe could happen because of incompatible with Windows driver (most often) or because of hardware issue (rarely). This is not related to BIOS

Please, don't attempt to update the BIOS because it is not related and it may get worse.

In order to troubleshoot, I would need some specific information.

First - configuration

When you start your computer to Windows, go to Start -> type and open Control Panel -> goto System and open it.

Then follow the instructions here to Disable Automatic Reboot after Blue Screen Errors

Uncheck 'Automatically restart' option and click OK.

Please, configure your WIndows to create kernel memory dump file as per these instructions here:

When BSOD screen appears your computer shall not reboot but the blue screen will remain on top.

Please, write here absolutely everything you will see on the screen. (of take a picture and upload it here or somewhere else). There can be some code which may help me help you, or a driver (.sys) mentioned. Need magix movie edit pro 2015 serial number. After that you will have to hard restart your computer.

Second - collect dump files

After reboot/restart , open the Computer (Windows Explorer) and go to C:Windows

Open Minidump folder

There should be some dump files inside the folder.

Mark them all, right click them all (when marked) -> choose Send to -> Compressed (zipped) folder

Windows will now create a zip archive

I will need this zip archive containing the dump files. They may help me providing technical information about why the issue happens. Once you have the files, upload them somewhere (e.g. OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc..) and provide me with link to download

Third - test your hardware for issues

1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button

2. Power it on.

2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, keep hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).

This should open a HP Startup Menu

3. Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.

This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JXUp43ahHA

If the tests pass without issues, continue. If not, please, let me know

Four - check your PC for viruses/malware

You can use the free HitmanPro or ESET Online scanner

Let me know the results in details, please.

Here is the HP official article which includes details >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04593971

Looking forward to your reply. Let me know the results of the test. Post back if you face difficulties. :)

Insyde F.18 BIOS update

‎10-08-201712:07 PM

Hi

I got a BIOS update from the hp website for my laptop and installed it before I got this reply. It seemed to work fine until i got the usual bluescreen.

Something rather weird, when i uncheck the 'Automatically restart' option, the laptop turns off unexpectedly. this persists even after i check it once again. Due to this, i have only gotten one more BSOD. I am not able to upload the BSOD image (since its too big and the machine shuts down unexpectedly) but the stop code is WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. This has been the stop code for all the BSODs. Here are the dump files.

I have done system tests using the system diagnostics. Both quick and extensive tests have passed apart from a few component tests. Here are the test logs.

I have also scanned checked my PC for viruses or malware using hitman pro. All possible threats have been deleted.

Hello again.

You get a BSOD due to WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

As per Microsoft article (1) >> https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028662/windows-how-to-fix-wheauncorrectableerror

the solution is to update Windows (meaning that it may be due to driver bug or some Windows bug). Is your Windows really fully updated ?

As per Microsoft article (2) >> https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/debugger/bug-check-0x124---whea-uncorrecta..

this may be a hardware error (usually a processor error).

As per HP article here >> https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c03617982

this should be either driver issue or a processor issue

However, drivers may also mean a malicious driver.

Truth is that it is either a driver issue or that there has been a hardware failure.

1. Since you have alread updated the drivers, let's ignore them now.

2. Make sure your Windows is really updated

3. Exactly what did HitmanPro detect and remove - could you elaborate ? Can you open HitmanPro again and go to its Settings/History and review the log file

Did you scan with ESET, too ? What was the output ?

4. I can't open your diagnostics log. Please, open diagnostics again (F2) and to go >>> System Tests >> Extensive Test

Vadalvat marathi serial wikipedia. Run it and let me know the output. The extensive test should check all major components in detals such as Battery, Processor, Wi-Fi, Memory, Storage (HDD/SSD/eMMC), Video , System board

Please, let me know if they all pass and if one fails, which one ?

Insyde F.18 BIOS update

Thanks for the reply

I re-installed Windows due to the frequent abrupt shut downs. The only driver currently installed is the intel® graphics and audio drivers for brightness control. Should I manually download and install the drivers from the hp website, let windows do it or let hp support assistant do it… or do something else?

I am using Windows 10 build 14393. When you say update, do you mean update it to creators update or even fall creators update or the constant kb******** (periodic updates) Windows offers?

HitmanPro detected a lot of edge and chrome cookies and an xbox'something'.sys. It would delete all the other files apart from the .sys file. No scans were done using eset online.

No failures were noted in the extensive system tests. I will do it again and send the log files. The only problem I had was in the interactive component tests of the keyboard and the USB ports. Here is the link to the last diagnostic logs:

I would not quickly agree that the issue is hardware failure related. The PC is only an year old. It's warranty ended at around September. The issue started when using GNS3. It would utilize 100% of processor (i3) and memory (then 4GB) resources, use more battery power and cause significant temperature rises. Similar effects, or less, we caused from gaming but it never brought an issue. At that moment random hangs were the main issue ,even after formatting the hard drive and re-installing windows, until I upgraded the memory (to 8GB) and upgraded the hard drive (to 1TB from 500GB) but my PC never hanged when gaming (my PC has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 820). Afterwards, BSODs became the main issue.

Something else rather weird. I once tried to install Ubuntu Gnome into a specific partition but it would hang at particular steps and caps lock light would flash repeatedly then the screen would remain frozen.

I hope this helps, any other info needed will be sent to you.
